One of the dozens of #LostMelbourne mansions, especially in Toorak – ‘The Towers’ (originally ‘Bricknell’) was off Lansell Road (red dot in map), designed by #WHEllerker for politician and land boomer Mathew Davies in 1882; in 1887 he planned very grandiose extensions by #SmithAndJohnson, but seems they didn’t happen judging from the 1912 photo from @stonningtonlibraries. Except the top of the tower and perhaps new verandahs. By the 1920s it was reduced from 10 to one acre, used as flats, and then demolished in 1927.
