Lost Toorak Mansion no 5

One of the dozens of #LostMelbourne mansions, especially in Toorak – ‘The Towers’ (originally ‘Bricknell’) was off Lansell Road (red dot in map), designed by #WHEllerker for politician and land boomer Mathew Davies in 1882; in 1887 he planned very grandiose extensions by #SmithAndJohnson, but seems they didn’t happen judging from the 1912 photo from @stonningtonlibraries. Except the top of the tower and perhaps new verandahs. By the 1920s it was reduced from 10 to one acre, used as flats, and then demolished in 1927. Info from @therealproflewis #melbournemansions database.
