Modernisation of a terrace house at 96 Hotham Street in 1963 – and in 2021 it was completely restored ! The three, called Janet Terrace, were built in 1881, and designed by Charles Webb, who also did Tasma Terrace (last pic), and this has similar fully arched upper level cast iron, and a central circular parapet motif. I was alerted to this by a Melbourne history Facebook page, and the info and old photo are from the East Melbourne Historical Society. I feel like saying only in East Melbourne are owners so dedicated to faithful restorations, but I’m sure they happen elsewhere – though I can’t think of one quite like this, with not only the verandah but the parapet recreated, and they matched the colours of the other two, too.
