Premier Tower, Spencer Street

Original post 7 October 2019 The #PremierTower on #SpencerStreet was designed by @elenberg_fraser employing their signature wave-forms, but in this case it’s alarmingly wobbly from some angles. And it’s supposedly inspired by Beyoncé (!). It really stands out because until now Spencer Street hasn’t seen any new #penciltowers like other streets, and unless someone demolished … Continue reading Premier Tower, Spencer Street

South Melbourne surf club pavilion

Original post 4 July Photos 18 June 2020 The new #SouthMelbourneBeach pavilion by @jcbarchitects is very minimalist, a simple very low profile and grey render (precast?), quite nice but I’d have liked a bit of something? Bright colours inside. Great that there’s a fair amount of under cover space on the beach, where there isn’t … Continue reading South Melbourne surf club pavilion

Beaumaris Modern No 2 – 60s style from 2016

Original post 20 October 2019 Rather extraordinary house - part of the @beaumaris_modern open day that completely channels the 60s, with I think a fair dose of Sydney 60s guru #NevilleGruzman, lots of beams and black gridded #steelframedwindows. Designed by @zenibaker, complex 2016. I thought it was great ! Very livable, gardens out every window, … Continue reading Beaumaris Modern No 2 – 60s style from 2016

They used to be all in the middle, with book stacks on the sides- but there’s now far fewer shelves, … Continue reading Queens Hall at the State Library has some great old furniture, and lots of empty space.

Swanston Central tower – fail !

First posted Instagram 3 December 2019. It’s a C- from me; #SwanstonCentral, @elenberg_fraser, the colours barely register, neither does the slight curve, and it just stops in the sky. And looks very dull indeed if the sun isn’t shining. Really we should have something much better for this prime spot, outside the #HoddleGrid.  (Update : … Continue reading Swanston Central tower – fail !
