John Donne & Sons sold charts and maps and globes and published stuff, located here at 356 Little Bourke Street since at least the 1890s, rebuilt in c1940 – think this #shopfront is original, they left here only maybe 10 years ago, seem to be in Bentleigh now. #WilkinsandKent left the sign which is nice.

Another victim of computer technology I expect. Used to walk by and admire it when walking down Little Bourke and figured it’s days were numbered – as you say it is nice that the original signage has been retained.

I have fond but faded memories of buying maps for bushwalking from this shop fifty or so years ago. It was a little like visiting the wand shop in Harry Potter. Lots of very old timber map draws etc. and being served by a very interesting eccentric bloke who knew every single map. I was contemplating visiting today to buy a couple of maps of the Taggerty / Cathedrals area and found this page. Looks like I’m ten years too late! π
