Boncap, 1935, L Garrard Cahn – a rather severe bit of #ArtDeco in #FitzroyStreetStKilda. One of the few blocks of flats in Melb built on a shopping strip with shops below – the others are mainly also here or in Acland Street. Great lines, though the balconies rather limit views out ! Also excellent front doors and terrazzo stairs all intact.

The excellent (and relatively rare for Mellbourne) #ArtDecoDoors. And theres mom a great lobby and stair inside too ! So much #terrazzo! And #chrome ! Thanks to @davidlbrand for alerting me to have a closer look. And thanks to a Facebook commenter for pointing out the lovely sea-green #tiling under the verandah, a very unusual touch (and one that hasn’t lasted too well at the edges). Photos 2018.

Appears to be a single owner still, no old sales I can find, at least three are holiday rentals or is it 5 hard to tell, but photos show nice intact fireplaces – and kitchens and bathrooms yay ! Update : I’m told that existing renters were chucked out in 2020 in favour of fully Airbnb, after it was inherited by the kids from long term owner. Thankfully havnt replaced the kitchens and bathrooms. 4 x 2 bed flats at the front, 4 bed sits behind.
