Not much to look at but radical in its day, a cantilevered stair inside a mini #glasscurtainwall, built in 1936 for #Pilkingtons glass factory on #MelbourneRoad in #Geelong, designed by local firm #LairdandBuchan; the stair is very #modernist compared to the great long #streamlinedmodern front in white pained brick, with curved insets doorways, a bit #DutchExpressionist – obscured by trees and a zillion signs for the #GeelongVintageMarket inside – which allows you to see the crazy complex structure holding up the #sawtoothroof, steel beams everywhere, and a couple of later #webjoists allowing for longer spans – the 1998 heritage study says interior of lower significance because altered but I think it’s great !
