The best older building in Geelong ? The great #TandGbuilding, one of the nearly 20 small-to-large T & G buildings dotted around Australia and NZ, all built 1924-1940, many with distinctive stepped towers, (almost) all designed by #AandKHenderson, the Geelong one was their first foray into #ArtDeco, and remarkably built pretty much during the #GreatDepression, in 1934.
The #clocktower features a pair of figures, a farmer father and son, who pop out on the hour (or just midday?) havnt seen them for years, but repaired in 2916, when #DeakinUniversity bought the building – for student housing (! work by #studio101architects).
I went looking to see if it had an intact foyer, and yes it does, with tiles floors and oatmeal #tileddado, even the lift looks original ! Second interior from realestate.com, cos of course I couldn’t get in, and the figures pic from the #GeelongIndy.
