#OurLadyofMountCarmel, completed 1928, rearing up in the middle of #MiddlePark; surprisingly for a quiet suburb it replaced a church that was already pretty big (maybe it was bigger families ? Or because it’s home for the #Carmelites ?) anyway it’s by #AugustusFritsch who did about a dozen impressive churches pretty much all in a similar #Romanesque/#Byzantine style, whether built 1905 or 1925 !

Looks like 50s #crazypaving in #terrazzo but might be original 1928. #OurLadyOfMountCarmel, #MiddlePark, #AugustusFritsch.

Tucked away on the side of #OurLadyofMountCarmel in #MiddlePark is the original #RobertPrenzel 1928 #copper over carved timber #MadonnaandChild, which blew down in a storm in 1987 and was replaced by a replica. Neither of them look very coppery… Prenzel did a lot of stuff for various churches at the end of his career – apparently because WW1 anti-German sentiment led to losing commissions.
