Gothic atriums to new laneways.

Gothic atriums to new laneways.

So as part of the changes at the #GothicBank / #ANZWorldHeadquarters, these atriums, created in 1989-93, are going to be opened up and become ‘outside’ into a north and south ‘#campiello’; losing the not-great #pomo vaguely #Gothic structures no great loss, but a curious decision – is it #laneway mania ? The first one (photos 1,2,3), made by demolishing single storey sections at the back of the #GothicBank, will open out to an actual former #laneway, though it will still have plain glass walls into the #GothicBank, and the other one (the darker photo) is partly under the #officetower and only exists due to demolishing a chunk of the 1890 #SafeDepositBuilding ! Those Gothic windows are complete inventions. That one will open into a new three storey space excavated out from under the tower linking to #BriscoeLane), though 1 floor down connected by steps. So I guess the site will be more porous, and with the #CathedralRoom opening into that new space, I guess a lot more visited ? Designed by @kerstin_thompson_architects, Ive only just realised how everything will connect ! Still like to know exactly what it will look like though.

That’s the original side wall of the Safe Deposit
These gothic windows are 1993, in entirely new walls ….
These windows fill in arches in openings made in 1923, that used to lead into back-of-counter space, now empty space.
