Temple Court, 1925

Temple Court, 1925

The rather grand #TempleCourt in the financial heart of #CollinsStreet was built in 1924-25, designed in ‘#CommercialPalazzo’ (US influenced) style by #GraingerLittleBarlowandHawkins ( #MarcusBarlow just before he went solo). It replaced the 1857 #PurchasAndSwyer building of the same name which extended the legal precinct from Little Collins, one block of which was known as Chancery Lane, through to Collins. It was hailed as a ‘Temple to Commerce’ (get it ?) partly because it’s huge, going right through to #LittleCollinsStreet, with giant #lightcourts each side, now mostly built around. I did wonder when it was turned into flats In 2001 why anyone would buy the ones that just looked into these courts, but they did.
