Great details on this little #ArtDeco Commonwealth Bank in Hampton – look at those wild square things on the #verandah brackets ! Hmmm actually thanks to @harperandcharlie who pointed this out they’re prob 80s or 90s cos these Comm Banks didn’t have awnings. At lest they left the unexpected delight of the #wroughtiron in the #doorgrill, so much effort for such a small building.
There are many Art Deco Comm Banks around Melbourne, all with similar details, especially a central vertical feature, but mostly grander than this one, presumably all by their in-house architects.
update 2026:
It was sold over a year before I took my pics, with a leaseback, and it’s since closed. Looks a bit better without the garish signage. I’ve added pics of the grills of 3 other of these Deco banks, each one is different.
