The very rustic style #LorneBeachPavilion was built in 1939, and (probably) designed by the #PublicWorksDepartment Chief Architect #PercyEverett – who normally did very stylish Moderne /ArtDeco stuff but was perfectly capable of doing Rustic, Tudor or Georgian if the use seemed to call for it. This style prob straight from the US #newdeal stuff built in their National Parks in the 30s, often called #parkitecture 😁 Not sure what this was originally, possibly just a picnic pavilion, it’s been expanded a lot and it’s now a restaurant /bar, a bit overpriced I thought, but where else can you have lunch right on the beach ??

Today’s discovery : I came across a photo of the ‘Port Campbell Comfort Station’ which looks very similar, and was reported in the Age Monday 11 April 1938 as “Australia’s first”, and noting that it was by Percy Everett of the PWD. And then searching for comfort station instead of pavilion, I found a photo of Lorne as a ‘ladies lounge’, so thats all proof enough for me that he also did that one. A comfort station not only had toilets but a place women could freshen up, or change nappies. As far as I can tell from google maps, the Port Campbell original is long gone. I think the photo of Lorne is the land side.
