Postmodernism in Kensington

A bit of wacky full-bore #postmodernism in Bellair Street Kensington; I guess someone changed a shopfront (hopefully not original) into this, with symmetry, glass blocks, a bit of classical rustication undermined by just floating in the opening. Very tall proportions which I assume is original and a function of the land sloping up behind. Love it, I think.

Update 2025:

Crazy tall proportions, because it’s only maybe 4m wide, and slopes up behind. Inside it’s split level, and (in 2013), the skylights/timber ceilings look 70s, while the gallery behind looks very 80s, and the double lounge space only really has light from the glass bricks (!). It was sold in 1991, I’m guessing the alterations were just after that.
