Art Deco pair, East Melbourne

A great pair of ArtDeco apartment buildings on George Street in East Melbourne; they back on to the back of Garden Avenue where all the flats were designed by #IGAnderson, who probably designed these too, c1940. The left one is more streamlined, the other is more Georgianish. I remember ages ago there was no fence between, it was all one spacious garden.

Updates : the left one is studios and 1 beds, with the disadvantage that the lounge rooms look into the walkway. There’s larger ones to the rear, with a cute rounded window, and the ground floor one extended. Last time I posted this former residents said they’d found a great community there in the 80s-2000s, and related a story from an original tenant called Florence (Flo) that the right one was occupied by US soldiers during WW2. She also kept an eye on things, and said hi to those returning from a disco in the early hours ! And a studio was $55/week. The fence went up on 1987, and the left one was strata titled in 2007. Last pic not mine.
