A fine bit of #latemodernism, probably early 1980s, just slick aluminium panels and mirror glass windows. I think if it was in the CBD, it would be better known and appreciated, but here in B class office land, you just go past. No 468.

I kind of admired this one at 484 St Kilda Road ages ago for its interesting angled cut outs/ legs in the corner, but actually apart from that it’s just a big box. And there’s the annoying canopy stuck on later that’s tries but fails to match. Relatively nice taut aluminium/glass curtain wall, making it much more Late Modern than Postmodern. By #MeldrumAndBurrows, 1983. This is one of the tallest/biggest from the 80s, when not that many went up the full permitted 60m / 16 storeys. Thanks Simon Reeves for the info.

Even though this is the biggest tower on St Kilda Road, and quite monolithic, you sort of don’t notice it that much, perhaps because BP right next door is only a little shorter. It’s satisfyingly chunky and a bit textured, but not terribly exciting. Thought I wouldn’t be likely to find out much, but Google AI led me to the @nationallibraryaus, and a photo of it nearly complete in 1975, noting it’s called Brixton House, and the architect was Graham Jasper (no leads on him though). And @naagovau has more, one during construction showing I think that the exterior is load bearing precast, and an office floor with mad yellow carpet and ceiling, and the refurbished foyer in 1986, with pink chairs and a BMW.
