Original post 31 March 2020:
This nice house in #Footscray, right on the river, and now part of the Footscray Community Arts Centre, was built in 1874, and was home to William Henderson, who ran a bacon curing works right next door – must have been smelly ! The works were to the north, and only the part attached to the house survives. Became a margarine factory from the 1880s, maybe not so smelly, and finally became the arts centre in the late 70s, restored 1986, when I presume the verandah was rebuilt (or did it survive ?) and so was the garden, though neither are totally accurate. The lovely drawing is by Colonial artist #STGill, c1873
