Repost 2015: Old #prahrancourthouse. Great and rather rare example of #roughfaced #sandstone in a city of italianate cement render or bricky gothic, but of course perfect for an image of solid, dour justice. Architect Charles Gilchrist working in the #publicworksdepartment, built 1887. Surprisingly all the fine Gothic stonework and entry to the court is down a narrow side street, while the Grenille Street front was the #policestation. The use of a porch with a tall gothic window above is similar to the Carlton Courthouse, by GBH Austin, built the same year. No idea what’s in there now, think connected with the post office and town hall next door.
