Rosati, Flinders Lane

Rosati, Flinders Lane

Original post 2 August 2016

Still can’t believe this loss – Looks like nothing is left of the distressed classical style 1987 interior of Rosati’s in Flinders Lane – once THE place to see and be seen. From memory designed by the restauranter/entrepreneur Piero Guesueldi, with the help of Italian mosaic artists. Beautiful mosaics, great tiles and fun faux worn murals. The interior might have been protected in 2011 along with 10 other significant interiors, but it was ruined while the investigation was on-going (!). In 2015 it was gutted, including removing most of the floor, it’s now ‘Garden State’, a huge four level pub / bar with courtyard, with some of the 1930s sawtooth roof removed, most of the ground level concrete floor (and of course the mosaics) removed to open up extensive basement areas. But better than the 10 storey office block first proposed.
