Classical terrace pair, St Kilda

Original post 18 August 2020:

Another early #grandterrace in #StKilda, this one in #BurnettStreet is actually a #terracepair, with side gardens, a type seen in St Kilda but not much elsewhere. Built in 1866, it has a Palladian touch with the verandah in the form of open renaissance #colonnades, which the @nationaltrustvic citation (with handy B&W pic maybe from the 60s) says ultimately derived from the Palazzo Chiericati at Vicenza of 1550 ie the Doric below with Ionic above and entablature between, but rather less grand. They also say the architects were #CrouchAndWilson. The one on the right looks very nice inside from current sale pics – apparently last sold in 1986!

Update August 2023 : sold for $4.6 mill. Now the left one is for sale, complete with attached 60s flats; looks like the current owners had a go at refurbishing the house which was also flats, but they’ve left a mess. An old rental ad shows some nice Edwardian panelling, now gone, other image from the sale listing.
