Cambridge Terrace, Drummond Street Carlton, just north of Princes Street; named after the home town of the bricklayer owner/developer, which also explains the dominating #brickyness. A row of six, apparently the first part (which part I don’t know) built 1867, pretty early for face #brickwork and #polychromebrick for that matter. The earlyish date may also explain the lack of #verandah, though I’m going for the desire to show off the bricks. The rest built matchingly in 1885. I do like the way the upper floor windows don’t align with the lower floor, the bold patterns making it not so noticeable.
Having looked at the file when I worked there, this terrace was a focus for @nationaltrustvic involvement in the campaign in the late 60s against plans by the #housingcommission to demolish the whole block for what was by then just ‘urban renewal’, not the provision of social housing. This is exactly what happened to the next block to the north, which is still all rather dull walkup flats.
