Fairholme Camberwell

Fairholme Camberwell

Just real estate pics now it’s up for sale, but I’m posting this because it was near where I grew up and with big hedges you could only glimpse it, and it looked very grand! It’s called Fairholme, 35 Prospect Hill Road, Camberwell, and it was built in 1872, designed by Crouch & Wilson, who were very prolific, houses, churches etc. The National Trust says the verandah was originally one level, so don’t know if maybe the whole very grand and unusual classical column verandah might be 1880s. It looks very American South, though they usually have double height columns. When this was built there wouldnt have been much around, just big estates, and Fairholme’s grounds were subdivided in 1901. Inside it’s big but not too big, nice details, lovely garden.
