Some postwar flats are really pretty good – this one at 30 Southey Street Elwood has #suprematist #mosaic in the lobby, angled pipe supports for the porch, two types of #breezeblock on the stairs, parquetry floors, and flat 9 even has original kitchen and bathroom (not so modern). It’s graded significant within the Elwood heritage precinct (phew!) and gets a special mention in the precinct review 2022, noting that it’s 1959, architect LG Grant & Associates (who I’ve never heard of, but Built Heritage has a bio). This is exactly the type of thing Robin Boyd railed against as ‘featurist’, but I’m glad some architects took no notice.
