Photos from 2015 I never posted – that abandoned house in Gipps Street, Abbotsford, near the Laird. Recent streetview shows it’s now covered with graffiti, and that bit of roof’s been fixed, but still looks abandoned.




Oh, actually it was cleaned up and sold early last year. The interior has some great bits, some pretty rare Art Nouveau woodwork and plaster, hope it all stays. There’s a huge yard so they could put units behind and keep the front portion of the house at least. The brother of the owner Raymond Moore is quoted saying it wasn’t abandoned, that Raymond actually did live there until last year, when he was hospitalised. He had used it for storage for his excavation business, and thought he’d develop the site, but got older and didn’t get round to it, and had a health scare in 2017. The sale price will fund a new home for him and for a carer. It took seven people six weeks to clean up the site.
