Great bank, City Road,

Original post 22 January 2018:

Bank of NSW, City Road, Southbank, 1932, #GodfreySpowers, rather nice and very unusual stylised Romanesque, with simple lines and zig zag details that look rather Art Deco. This bank must have served the low rise industrial and warehouse business that once dominated in this area. Now it’s a tiny #mote at the base of ‘The Bank’ (how creative) built 2011. Could have been worse, could have been just a facade, with a tower perched on concrete legs through it, like some others permitted recently. Instead, the interior is actually preserved ! At least the decorative ceiling is. Photos after the first not mine.
