A development win, mostly

A development win, mostly

27 January 2024:

That controversial development in Tiuna Grove, Elwood, nearly complete – in 2019, two WW1 era houses and another which had cream brick flats in front were to be demolished for a big apartment development. Locals were very organised and determined and supported by Council, and the houses were added to the heritage precinct with similar houses on the other side of the street – a very unusual result, ‘spot listing’ like this has to be approved by the Minister, who normally says No. And the developer went with it, and retained the front sections of the houses, with units behind, and new apartments next door. The new stuff is fine, nice texture of white tiles, but too much glass, and doesn’t match the houses, but there’s more 50s flats on the other side, so that’s ok. I guess given the desirability of Elwood these days they could still make a profit building far fewer units than originally intended. The new thing is called Como, designed by @mckimm.
