Studio flats, Georgian style

Studio flats, Georgian style

9 March 2019

An example of good taste 1930s Georgian in Powlett Street #EastMelbourne. ‘Regents Gate’ was built in 1937, and designed by #BernardEvans (20 years later Lord Mayor of Melbourne). Great little development of studio apartments, all looking onto the lovely central garden, curving together at the rear. Wouldn’t have had kitchen in the main room, perhaps originally the kitchens and bathrooms were off the hall, both tiny ? With room for a single bed on my I think. Generous living for a relatively low rent I guess. Studio flats are fine, as long as there’s room for the bed, preferably in an alcove off to one side, and a couch etc, which there seems to be here. Plans and interiors from real estate listings. Note : I had them dated at 1959 at first, thought rather retro for that date, and turns out no, it was 1937.
