Looking impossibly picturesque- the former Melbourne Teachers College, now part of #MelbourneUniversity, and called the #1888building (even though it was built 1889-91). By far the most OTT example of #QueenAnne in Melbourne, with a dash of Dutch Renaissance. Including the fence and gates. Architect #GBHAustin for the Public Works Department. Impossible to take a photo of the whole building – it’s very wide, lots of trees and faces south to boot – but I found an aerial, and a photo from 1930, with graduating teachers, and 1958. Also it seems the college opened only for a short time, closing in 1893 due to the 1890s depression, not reopening until 1900. Fantastic stair inside.
