If you like your apartment blocks #minimalist, you’ll like #Kilpara in #ToorakRoad, cnr Orrong, built in 1971, one of the lesser known works of #YunckenFreeman. The lead architect was #BarryPatten, who designed the #penthouse for his family – gosh. Only 28 spacious apartments, a pool, some nice views, nice lobby (looks at least partly new though). And this being #Toorak, often the interiors are filled with antique furniture (real estate images).
Side note : I went to school with his son, and I heard but didn’t believe a story about winching up the grand piano – but Barry’s daughter @victoria.mccaffrey has confirmed the story ! And that her mother still lives there. B&W photos @library_vic.
Update 2024: very surprised to see that it’s proposed for heritage listing, to be confirmed this year, and that no residents opposed it ! And also from that I now know the canopy isn’t original, but it’s fine.
