60s modern on Beaconsfield Parade, gone

9 April 2017

Long wondered about this one at #312BeaconsfieldParade – cute #midcenturymodern flats or is it cheap almost nasty ? Not sure why I think that, prob cos it’s thin plate edges and tiny setbacks contrasts so much with the mainly charming pre WW2 houses and flats along #beaconsfieldparade. Anyway, #justintime, cos about to be #demolished, replaced by an all glass version of what’s already there – swipe to see the #cronearchitects image (plus some random earlier design). Don’t know architect or date, cos not #heritagelisted, in fact sits in the one block of #beaconsfieldparade that isn’t in a #heritageoverlay for reasons unclear.

It’s actually built in the #frontgarden of a #victorianhouse – quite a few like these in #StKilda, but usually preWW2, and not so obvious ! (Though I’d never noticed before). And yes whole lot to be demolished.
