The fabulous #MelbourneTownHall #CouncilChamber, 1910. Look at that #plasterwork! With lots of gum leaves, hard to see though. In fact hard to see anything, it’s so dim, only natural light is through the skylight, and #leadlight #windows into light courts. And loads of dark polished timber too. Designed by Grainger Kennedy & Little The HV citation says EJ & JJ Clark designed the exterior, but can’t find any evidence of this. They may have taken over the contract administration – John Grainger had just returned from Perth, and was in and out of good health, due to excessive drinking and syphilis (!), and was only 52 when he designed this.

The luscious Yarra Room in the Melbourne Town Hall, maybe originally the library for the Councillors? Or #TownClerk’s office (old name for CEO) ?

A #heritagetoilet in the 1910 #MelbourneTownHall adminstration building. Love the very bold swags in the tiles. I’d guess the cistern was originally much higher up the wall. The building was designed by Grainger, Little and Barlow. John Grainger had a long career, from the 1880s to the 1910s, and was the father of Percy Grainger.
