Repost 2019 Open House Melbourne :
All Saints St Kilda East has an interior that’s much more elaborate than the exterior – the wonderful apse decoration was done in 1898 (designer not known) – pale green, dark terra cotta, and gold go together rather well. The painted decoration was comprehensively restored in 2009-10 by @mulhollandrestorationanddec. The chancel is flanked by a pair of #gasoliers, apparently thrown out by #WindsorChapel in some restoration, coming here in 1872 – this is the only operating gas light fitting like this I’ve ever seen, gives you some idea of how a church lit only by #gaslight (and candles) might have been. Built in stages between 1868 and 1882, the church is one of the few ‘High’ Anglican in Melbourne, also known as Anglo-Catholic, that is they really go in for the elaborate old school services, singing, etc. Pic 4,5 the internet.
