A Modernist house at 208 Kooyong Road Nth Caulfield Street is up for sale, so here’s the r e photos, from now and before (only 2 years ago). It’s not super stylish, but really quite nice, and well designed, with the lounge facing north, and opening out to a rear pool. The renovation, by owners who clearly liked it, saw the kitchen and all the bathrooms replaced, an extra bed and bath squeezed in (I can see why that might have cost the reported $1mill). The main rooms look much the same; love that built in lounge room cabinetry. The fence is a bit OTT though. Dating from 1964, it was designed by Dr Ernest Fooks, most famous for his own excellent house, now on the Heritage Register. It’s not heritage listed, the @cityofgleneira in 2021 listed post war modern houses for the first time, but only a total of 26, out of many many contenders, and none with interiors. You’d think after 80 years modernist houses would be accepted as heritage, but there’s still resistance to the idea. Photos go in pairs now / 2022.
