The Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre on St Kilda Road is pretty striking, all curves where all around it are square. Opening in April this year, it was designed by @lyonsarchitecture, another version of their restless, dynamic forms and facades. This one is wiggly at the front, top and bottom, with an arched entrance leaning out, and an undercut bit that opens to a seating area (pic 9 from Lyons website). The facades are fritted (white dots) creating rounded shapes, derived from a skin cross section, though it didn’t come out as strongly as the renders (pic 10). I particularly liked the landscaping by @rush.wright.associates, lots of granite (I think) both polished and rough, and some quite mature trees trucked in. It has a low fence, unusual for St Kilda Road, maybe to keep the rough sleepers out ? (but I just jumped it). Interiors sent by a friend, also curvy. It’s part of the Alfred, but also separate, and designed to assist treatment recovery and research, without looking like a hospital. Last pic is Paula Fox at the opening.

The back is pretty good too, pics Feb 2025
