Fabulous curvalicious late late streamlined Art Deco house at 6A Dickens Street, Elwood. It was built in 1954 for Mr & Mrs Rubenstein, who were apparently quite active in the local Jewish community. The architect was Leslie J Reed, who had designed in all the revival styles and Deco before WW2, and here seems to have maybe pulled out a design from c1940, complete with wildly curly-wurly wrought iron. He did a very nice house nearby in Brighton Road (last pic) in 1937 that has some curves too. An FB contact sent me a good pic from 2010, when it had fewer cars in the front yard. The conc had just been painted a jaunty nautical blue. It’s no. 6A because it was built in the side yard of the 1935 Spanishy house to the left, which had replaced a Victorian house.
