Very unusual terrace pair in Park Street West St Kilda; must be c1890, in advanced Queen Anne style, with curly pediment thing, red brick fence with cast iron in imitation of turned timber, as are the lower verandah posts, and a sunflower motif in the frieze. The doors are inset behind deep barrel vaults, never seen that before. The fashionable black paint means you can’t see much of the doors. The plan is also unusual, with the stairs set behind the two front rooms, in its own little section where normally there be another room, and the dining room has rounded corners, nice.

Number 20 was the residence of former Labor minister Gareth Evans.
