Looks like an 80s attempt at Art Deco, but it actually is an original; it’s in Findon Avenue, North Caulfield, built 1939, but surprisingly the architect isn’t known. But I did find some sale pics. It’s in a street created in 1938, and so there’s a strip of houses all from 1939-41, now a heritage precinct. The one next door is also white but not quite so exciting. Then there’s a nice Georgian one by Yuncken Freeman brothers & Griffiths, and a bit further down a more typical curvilicious brick Deco one, architect unknown, very nice. One in the middle was a very striking design by Edward Billson (last 2 pics) but it’s so altered it’s unrecognisable. Old pics from the heritage report.

Great 60s joinery in this house on Cantala Avenue in North Caulfield – just happened to pass be when the auction was about to start! It’s a sort of modern Georgian outside, built 1949, but refreshed maybe 20 years later with a whole load of built-ins, starting with the great entry screen. Off the dining room there’s also a bar, a whole wall of shelves in the lounge, and a study with more, and wild turquoise carpets. Some of the other built ins look 1949, as are the steepish stairs, and possibly the bathroom. There’s a sunroom out back probably also added in the 60s, and even a pool house with a roof looks also maybe the same time. The rooms are all modest sizes, and there’s not much back garden, but the front is lush. First time offered since it was built, so that’s why it’s so intact. No heritage listing, so anything could happen. Last 2 pics and plan real estate.

Perfectly pleasant Art Deco ish flats on Dandenong Road, cnr Findon Street, North Caulfield. Its called Cantala after the big old house on huge grounds sold and subdivided in 1938. Found some real estate photos from 2007-2011 looks quite nice inside too, I like the curly wrought iron stairs, and it has/had original kitchens and bathrooms, one in mauve and pale orange (who would do that today ?). Not heritage listed.
