4 October 2015:
Ignore the big ad and cluttered shop windows and you can see an interesting little shop/offices from c1971, half behind a tree in Elizabeth Street opposite the GPO. Lots of detail when you stop to look, like projecting first floor display window, which leans out, with inset corners and tiled edges to the conc, and the recessed/projecting shopfront. I seem to recall this being a #travelagency so the name #OrbitHouse makes sense, oh, just found an ad for them from 1973, so there you go. I guess they had the public at ground level and office space upstairs ? Or maybe they just occupied the upper floors. I’m told it was also the home of the little bookroom from 1979-2005. Update 2024: the shopfront was destroyed in early 2019, so the Hoddle Grid heritage review in 2020 said it was too altered, so it wasn’t listed.
