The (in)famous ‘cheesgrater’ in Fitzroy, corner of Argyle & Young Streets in 2016. I quite like it, though looks a bit cheaply done, but the rest of the huge complex is pretty banal, and 8 levels on the northeast corner still looks too big (pic 3). The whole 1/2 block development was an early big thing, shocking the people of Fitzroy when it was proposed in 2003. It went to VCAT twice, and was finally completed about 2012. It was a project initiated and designed by Ivan Rijavec, who vigorously defended the project. Equally massive things are now everywhere, but usually on main streets.

Here’s inside the grater, 202/300 young street, turns out those little windows are all there are ! And it’s a bit tiny. I suppose a good starter home ?
