8 November 2017:
St Augustines Bourke Street, main nave and facade 1870, TA Kelly. The cutest little country town sized church, but on a main street in the city, within its own little plot of greenery. It’s in the western end of the city, part residential part warehouses when it was built, then later much more commercial, now apartment towers springing up up all round. The tower was built, or finished, not sure, in the 20s, which explains its more Tudor look, rather than having a spire. Altogether very picturesque. The second photo is from the 50s, before fence, trees or anything. Inside, the aisles are supported by #castiron, complete with gothic #castironlace bracketing using intertwined letters ST for St Augustine and IHS for Jesus Christ Saviour (in Greek). Pretty. The only cast iron structure like this in a church in Victoria I can think of. The rose window by Ferguson & Urie in pink and green is very pretty too.
