Posted this place next to Florentino in Bourke Street in 2014 when the heritage precinct was being reviewed, and when I looked closely realised it was a new mid century facade on a revamped shop-house, which would have originally been like those either side.
Don’t know the architect, but it dates from 1963, and it’s a very fine timber framed window wall, that has the upper level set back inside to ensure that minimalist look. There’s some mosaic at the base, and there is/were remnants of a tiled floor.
It was the famous Nudel Bar in the 90s, revamped by @nmbw_architecture_studio, and it’s now Ombra, which seems to still have the Nudel tables.
Found a photo from c1963, you can just see it, and a sign saying Oyster (Bar ?). Ok, just found an ad for ‘the city’s newest and best Oyster Bar’, so that’s what it was. In the last photo from 1983 you can just see some Chinese lettering, so must have changed by then.
