Unrestored in Brunswick

Unrestored in Brunswick

13 February 2025

Photographed in 2014; my caption was then ‘old unrestored cottage’- might be all zhoojed up by now, but no idea where it was. Also, I now notice that the verandah posts are typically Edwardian thick turned timber, while everything else is Victorian. Oh, and the fence is Edwardian wrought iron and cyclone wire. Possibly it dates from c1900 and so had a bit of both eras. Or bits replaced, maybe the verandah had Victorian square timber posts, which decayed and got replaced with these in the 80s or after when they got really popular again. (Also I’m sure my mother used the term ‘zhoozhed up’, but American sources say it’s from Queer Eye 1).

Update : it’s 7 Mountfield Street, and looks exactly the same on last years streetview, but no couch and lots of bags of stuff. One commenter says it’s the house of a friend of his mother’s, now in his late 60s.
