Excellent set of 1920s lead light highlight shopfronts in St George’s Road North Fitzroy I photographed in 2014, don’t know why I didn’t snap them all. Found a sale ad in 1929, saying they had ‘expensive modern metal fronts’ so must be 20s though they look a bit Edwardian. There’s 8 left of the 10, in a grand block built in 1889, called the Gladstone Buildings, complete with a bust of the then British Prime Minister (in the middle of his fourth term) on the top of the pointy corner. At some point it’s lost the verandah and balustrades. Konstantinos Greek restaurant has been there for ages, and the Old Post Office antique shop signs seem ancient. Also, old Volvo !

My grandfather had a fruit shop in this strip in the 1920s, I believe it was in 179. I’ll send a photo to your email.
