I’d only ever glimpsed this one from a distance in passing – it’s 3 Bowen Crescent, off St Kilda Road, a bit more revealed recently by demo next door. Kind of wild, almost eye-straining use of stacked low arches done as a screen wall, a cheery op-art idea by Lumsden Ashton & Hale, and built in 1972 for Equitable Life. D Graeme Lumsden gave us similar fun architecture at the Petersville ice cream factory (sadly abandoned) and the zippy Royal Mail House in Bourke Street.
There’s a couple of rather old signs, and possibly original white quartz landscaping. It’s pretty squeezed in, only like 3m setbacks each side. Found a pic of what’s going up next door, boring. B&W pics Wolfgang Sievers, @library_vic.
