A fun house by my fave architects, husband and wife Holgar & Holgar, in Nola Court Toorak, that unfortunately is being advertised for sale with ‘no heritage overlay’ in big letters !
It was built in 1962, for Mr & Mrs Selwyn, so earlyish in their career, but already showing the way they didn’t mind angles and curves, and liked spaces to flow, as well as great joinery, and a rumpus room.
It was recommend for listing as part of a review in 2023, but as one of a group of four modernist houses not next to each other, a concept to which the Planning Panel said no. To their credit Council asked the minister to extend the interim heritage control anyway, and approve the dozens of other houses and precincts, but they’ve all lapsed ! There’s at least two other houses thought to be under threat. If the minister thinks less heritage means more housing, I’d be pretty certain that in Toorak, any replacements would just be bigger houses.
