Gardenvale, up

Gardenvale, up

September 2025

Gardenvale Station, one of those radically elevated ones, perched atop a long embankment, the original way of avoiding level crossings. The station was built in 1906 in pretty simple style, perched on giant legs, probably originally timber, now steel.

Platform 1 (to city) was damaged by fire in 2009, then repaired, but like many stations, all the opening are blocked since there’s no staff. That building must have been extended at some point, since the opening day photo shows it rather differently. And there’s a great pic from the 60s showing the amazingly long ramp, and probably still not long enough for current codes.

First pair of pics and the lobby mine from 2015, others Facebook and Wikipedia.
