Spotted this rather gigantic house in Anderson Street South Yarra opposite the gardens, and thought it looked maybe Tudor revival but without the cute details – turns out it dates from 1907, designed by Klingender & Alsop on Arts & Crafts style, and comparing to the early photo, it’s been sadly rather altered.
It also shows that mansions occupying most of the site arnt a new thing. Or possibly it was extended to the rear with similar roofs, perhaps when it was turned into two flats, a ground floor one and an upper one, might have been as early as the 1930s. Not many details left inside, not to mention the stairs gone and windows made plainer.
