Bright red tiles and a blue post add a Mondrian touch to these 50s flats in Burnett Street St Kilda. It’s actually one of a pair, the other painted into blandness. They replaced a large Victorian house, so they’re numbers 17 and 17a, the latter with the red tiles. It sold earlier this year as a single lot, so there’s a plan of the whole building. Funny that they’re on separate lots, would have been much nicer facing each other maybe with a central garden or at least a single driveway.
Update : the east st kilda review notes that these are by Kurt Popper, built 1959, similar details to his flats Cnr Alma and Westbury.
