Just been alerted by @nickolaivanlierop to this Edwardian house at 5 Westbank Terrace in Richmond – which doesn’t look like much outside, but inside sports an array amazing pressed metal not just on the ceilings, but whole walls too, with a variety of patterns.
They’re mostly Art Nouveau, and some in very bold patterns I’ve never seen before – especially the hall walls and the upper wall in the lounge. Winderlich was the main manufacturer of pressed metal, and the patterns were usually in grids, so these ones are quite unusual…just found a catalogue from 1908 which has at least four of these exact patterns.
The house is up for sale, and it’s in a part of Richmond that doesn’t have a general heritage overlay, so there’s already a permit for units. Not that HO controls cover many interiors anyway. Maybe someone could buy it to move to the country ?
