This little striking Brutalist thing in Grattan Street opposite the Uni was built as the offices of Eggleston MacDonald and Secomb, 1964. Which makes it pretty much the earliest example of concrete Brutalism in Victoria, a bit ahead of the famous Total carpark in Russell Street, completed 1965. I quite like the expressed rough textured conc beams, that seem over designed to support that huge expanse of dark glass.
EMS did a variety of work including the nice 1956 Beaurepaire pool in the Uni, and later the expressed steel frame BHP research lab in Mulgrave, 1967.
My pics are 2014; it’s still there and graded Significant in the Carlton heritage precinct.
