Very grand very unusual house pair in Mozart Street St Kilda, built 1890, architect unknown. 19thC house pairs are more common in St Kilda than anywhere else, but these are on a relatively wide an shallow block, and not exactly centrally located, though opposite the town hall. Bold or maybe cheap example of the new Queen Anne style, looking pretty Edwardian with those timber verandahs with turned timber posts. Converted to four flats in 1929. In 2016 sold with a permit for 21 flats (not sure how, it’s heritage listed), but that didn’t happen, instead they turned back into twi houses – one of which was sold last year, so we can see various details survived, in particular the nice leadlight windows.

Absolutely wonderful.
